No idea if any of that was ever concrete, however. No information about what company was doing it, or anything of that nature, but I remember screenshots of an editor and some database options. I think around the time RPG Maker 20 were out, there were rumors of an "RPG Maker 3D" in progress. I personally am eager for someone to try simple 3D on RMMV such as Breath of Fire III / IV or Etrian Odyssey. Not something I'd recommend everyone, to be honest, as you'll need to dig in quite deep to produce anything even remotely playable, but it's probably the route that gives you the most power if you have time and, more importantly, lots and lots of money to invest
Theeen there are some other, shadier alternatives that are currently sold or freeware, then comes the 90's abandonware which you'll hardly find a working download on the internet, and if you do find, they will not work on windows 10Īnd then there are unity presets and stuffs that, according to people, are quiiite complex and hard to use but give you a lot of freedom in exchange for a steep (?) price and learning curve. Then the closest best thing to an RPG Maker is Smile Game Builder, but it's quiiite limited compared to the super flexible RPG Maker (even more limited than RM2k, to my surprise, database and eventing-wise) Official 3D RPG Makers are the 2 PS2 ones and that's it.
"they" are always working on a 3D RPG Maker, and currently there are quite a few alternatives out there from all sorts of consoles and timespans.
